For a few hours now Google Australia displays the „unexplained phenomenon“ Google Doodle but no one really knows what it means. If you click it, you get the unexplained phenomenon search results page. Germany also has it’s version of the Doodle called „Rätselhaftes Phänomen“ which pretty much translates to unexplained phenomenon. Google Russia also has it’s version called „необъяснимые явления“.
What is it about?
Surely the US will soon get the unexplained phenomenon Doodle and more and more people are about to get crazy about it’s meaning. Is it a gag? An experiment? A self-reference? Is there someone at Google laughing at us?
Enlighten us!!! Spooky, isn’t it? Call Mulder and Scully!

Because, they want to believe that live it’s more interesting and they always want to see what their like to see…So, they never see the true and monotone real face of life… That’s happens today again, when a lot of people try to explain a symbol that means nothings that all and it’s to see their reaction because all people forget that yesterday was the 11th birthday of the opening of Google headquarters. And nobody remember… So now that play like when we forget the birthday of someone…

We’ve got it in Canada too, FYI. This seems to be another incident of Google pranking the entire world. Nice that a giant corporation can maintain a sense of humor.

I took it to be that not having an explaining tool tip, like usual, was “unexplained phenomenon”. Why it appears on Sept 04 or 05, though, I don’t know.

I think they picked the unexplained phenomenon doodle because alien communication/contact is unpredictable. You could be abducted next week and nobody can tell you when because its, as I said ,unpredictable.

I am freaked out. 10 minutes ago my computer screen went dark for a few minutes. I couldn’t figure out why. Monitor was on, computer was working right… but no image. This is a nice computer I bought in 2005, and it has never done anything like this before. Then suddenly the image came back. Then I get on google, one of my favorite pass-times… and I see the UFO doodle …???? what is it there for?? somebody explain…
I am also a little worked up after just watching ghost stories and a bigfoot documentary……. feeling a little scared of the paranormal tonight. And google’s mysterious doodle isn’t helping!!

Uh… it’s a joke, everybody. There IS no explanation for the doodle. That’s the joke.. it’s an UNEXPLAINED phenomenon = UNEXPLAINED doodle on Google.
In 1952 there was a sighting of an unidentified flying object. ever since then people have been searching for these ufos. well, tonight on september 4th 2009 i saw a ufo, and i put up this doodle up to warn others. THERE IS OTHERS OUT THERE! AND THEY ARE COMING TO GET ME!!! THEY WILL GET YOU TOO!!!

Weird I just saw the US one. When you hover over it it doesnnt even display a title. Maybe they are doing just trying to fit the description of the doodle. UFO’s are mysterious and it’s mysterious that they have it as a doodle.

Seems a bit out of character for google so there really is no telling at this time. I can confirm the doodle is showing up in the US (Seattle). And your site is the only one indexed referring to the doodle.
Well it is there to show the day that someone mad a big fuss about seeing a ufo and crop circles. IT is there to represent these sightings.

I think Google is trying to compete with Bing – Microsoft’s rival search engine. Bing’s homepage always has a beautiful picture with many links that are associated with the picture. The Google Doodle now seems dull in comparison. So Google is trying to up its game by having the Google Doodle seem more interesting.
A couple other things. September 5th 1977 (32 years), Voyager 1 is launched. September 5th 1984 (25 years), Space Shuttle Discovery landed is maiden voyage.

Well …Here’s MY explanation IMO, picture this: seeing as there is word out there that the President was talking about Mexico privatizing their oil and stuff … the darn google doodle just looks to me like a Mexican Salt-shaker … a huge transparent Mexican, in a huge mexican hat … who swallowed a huge round jumping bean; and we all know what happens to people who eat BEANS …. right?

The most likely cause of this unexplained phenomenon is the release of “District 9″ the latest film from Director Neil Blomkamp.
Guess there’s too much Parrot Head in me…at first glance, it looked like a salt shaker wearing a sombrero. But then again, since since I lost my shaker of salt, it showing up as a Google Doodle that represents unexplained phenomena certainly makes sense.

They have that as the logo in England too now. If the logo on google changes it is generally beacause of like a birthday of a famous person or a special day. I have never seen anything like this. It is slightly random too.

I was watching the Discovery Channel last night, and they were showing the “The way the world will end – part 256″ and once again the Mayan Calendar predicted this event. Is there no end to what those Mayan’s knew? Anyway…the show went on to tell us about how Nostradomus and a few other highly credible religious folks have all said that September 2009 would be the end of the human race, and that we would start seeing signs starting on the 5th of the month.
Google’s crawler was just simply efficient enough in it’s ability to scour the depths of human knowledge (all of it being contained directly on the internet) to find the sign for us and post it prominently on the front page.
I’m not sure what the rest of you are planning, but I’m going to contact the IHC right away and secure my legacy within some cave somewhere that is completely safe from flood / meteor impact / alien rain of terror / wrath of god. I urge the rest of you to do the same.
